The funding we have had from the Dowager Countess Eleanor Peel Trust has been enormously helpful in growing biomedical research at Lancaster University. The establishment of the Peel Chair in Cancer Biology and specific project support at PhD student and post-doctoral level has been an important part of our growth that has recently led to the formation of a Biomedical Sciences Unit. In 2006 the University admitted its first medical students through a close relationship with Liverpool University and new support from the Dowager Countess Eleanor Peel Trust for this exciting new initiative is highly appreciated.

Dear Michael
We were delighted to hear that the Trust has chosen to support
CancerCare’s Silver Jubilee Appeal and are very grateful
to have received your donation at this early stage. The Trust’s
generous support for the Appeal has been very encouraging
for the charity and will undoubtedly be a great inspiration
to other supporters.
As you know, CancerCare has been offering support to anyone
in our local area affected by a cancer diagnosis for the
last twenty five years. Demands for the services provided
by the charity continue to grow unceasingly. Although we
already support over 1500 local people every year, numbers
are set to grow for many, many years to come. This inevitably
means more space and facilities are needed. The charity’s
Silver Jubilee Appeal aims to make it possible to meet the
increased demand for the foreseeable future and the support
of the Dowager Countess Eleanor Peel Trust is a highly valued
contribution to CancerCare’s aims.
We cannot thank you enough.
Yours sincerely

The British Red Cross is at the forefront of emergency relief
efforts and funding from the Dowager Eleanor Peel Trust allows
the British Red Cross to respond to large-scale disasters
by keeping international emergency logistics stock up-to-date,
which enable a rapid and almost immediate response when the
next emergency happens.
In May 2008 the British Red Cross were able to provide
emergency logistics stock when cyclone Nargis struck the
coast of Myanmar with winds of over 190km, bringing heavy
rain and flood water leaving a path of misery and devastation
in its wake. Cyclone Nargis was the worst to hit Asia for
more than ten years – affecting
nearly 2.5 million people and claiming almost 85,000 lives,
of which as many as 90% were women, children and the elderly.
The British Red Cross was in a position to respond to the
disaster quickly because of the store of emergency relief
items. Mike Goodhand, Head of British Red Cross Society International
Logistics said: "Thank you very
much for your generous support. Your money enables us to
equip Red Cross centres in Panama and Dubai, and also Kuala
Lumpur, with stocks of vital emergency aid items to respond
to the needs of thousands of people affected by future emergencies
anywhere in the world."
We are very grateful to the trustees of the Dowager Countess
Eleanor Peel Trust for their invaluable support.

The Bendrigg Trust is one of the very few residential activity
centres in the UK running courses and short breaks for disabled
and disadvantaged people.
We rely on the support of grant making trusts for the purchase
of new capital equipment and to improve the facilities for
our visitors. We are extremely grateful for the generous
support of the Dowager Countess Eleanor Peel Trust with grants
that have enabled the Bendrigg Trust to develop and extend
its specialist provision.
Every year the Bendrigg Trust helps over 3,000 disabled
and disadvantaged people take part in activities like canoeing,
climbing, abseiling and caving that would otherwise not be
accessible to them; for example, abseiling in a wheelchair.
By taking part in such activities, our participants gain
self-confidence, develop independence and provide help and
support for each other in an inclusive environment. Equipment
purchased with grants from the Dowager Countess Eleanor Peel
Trust has been crucial to the improvements we have made in
our provision in recent years and we are very grateful to
them for their support.

Toynbee Hall: Older People services works to enable vulnerable, isolated older people from Tower Hamlets to lead full and independent lives.
In June 2007, The Dowager Countess Eleanor Peel Trust awarded £2,000 in support of the Toynbee Hall Weekend Service. The Weekend Service provides hot nutritious lunches and recreational activities to combat social isolation and fortify the members of Toynbee Hall: Older People over the weekend, a time when access to support services can be limited. The Weekend Service plays a vital role in preventing the decline in the health and well-being of vulnerable, isolated older people over the weekend and is much loved by service users.
Bruce Flory, Head of Older People Services said: “We are delighted with the Trust’s
support. Despite the crucial nature of our work, securing
funding towards work with older people is often challenging.
The impact of this grant cannot be underestimated. It has
given the Weekend Service and all those who attend, security
for the future.”
